Casey’s thirteen-year public service career has centered on dismantling barriers to participation in public spaces, programs, and the decision-making process. They have engaged this challenge through the execution of innovative social equity strategies in local government, public land management, and education. Casey holds a B.S. from the University of Minnesota in Recreation, Parks, and Leisure Studies and is pursuing a Master of Public Administration degree at the University of Colorado- Denver with a concentration in Environmental Policy and Management.
Casey specializes in public-sector Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Justice, Accessibility, and Belonging (DEIJAB) strategy. They worked with the City of Boulder to inform and advance the organization’s commitments outlined in its Racial Equity Plan, including the creation and implementation of a citywide equity assessment to evaluate the baseline and progress of the city’s racial equity efforts. In this role, they served as an equity expert and built the city’s first departmental DEIJAB team, employing a framework that cultivated leaders and fostered organization-wide integration of DEIJAB values.
Casey has worked closely with local, state, and federal land management agencies and academic institutions, and they thrive in collaboration with a diversity of partners including the LGBTQIA+ community, Indigenous communities, youth, recovery communities, and environmental justice organizations.
Casey’s current work centers on transforming culture in local governments and non-profits. Through their graduate coursework, they have unearthed a passion for understanding the role of love in public service and public sector management: an endeavor heavily influenced by Black feminist theory, as well as a growing body of behavioral research focused on love in organizational management. This work in conceptualizing and operationalizing love as a change model is the foundation of Systole Consulting.
